Four purpose-built Specialist Disability Accommodation homes have officially opened in Rokeby, providing new opportunities for people living with disability to enjoy greater independence, comfort and connection to their community.

WAI Group is proud to celebrate the official opening of Derwent Place, its latest Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) development, located just 13 kilometres from Hobart.

The development was officially opened on 21 October 2026 by the Hon Julie Collins MP, Federal Member for Franklin, who joined residents, their families, project partners and supporters for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Delivered through a partnership between WAI Group, Ronald Young & Co Builders, genU and ESG Inclusive Homes, Derwent Place comprises four purpose-built homes designed to accommodate up to 12 residents.

Designed for independence and everyday living

Each home features three bedrooms with private ensuites, wide corridors and doorways, step-free access, slip-resistant flooring, accessible switches and power points, and automated doors and windows.

Shared living spaces, including kitchens, games rooms and outdoor alfresco areas, provide opportunities for residents to connect and socialise, while the design also accommodates overnight onsite support.

Conveniently located near shops, healthcare services, public transport and community facilities, Derwent Place enables residents to remain connected to the wider Rokeby community.

A shared commitment to inclusive housing

WAI Group Director Paul Stanley said the development reflected the company's ongoing commitment to providing quality accommodation for people living with disability.

"Working alongside disability and Supported Independent Living (SIL) providers, we take our commitment seriously and are focused on growing the number of SDA properties, giving more people with disability access to comfortable, functional homes and the opportunity to live as independently as possible in communities they know and love."

genU Chief Executive Officer Dr Chelsea Tobin highlighted the importance of providing homes that support residents' individual needs, preferences and goals.

"Everyone deserves a home where they feel comfortable, connected and heard. At genU, we work alongside residents and their support networks to understand what matters to them and shape our support around how they want to live."

Creating homes that make a difference

Since 2017, WAI Group has been involved in delivering Specialist Disability Accommodation across Australia, working collaboratively with industry partners to create accessible housing that supports greater independence and quality of life.

The opening of Derwent Place represents another important milestone in this commitment.

WAI Group extends its thanks to all project partners and everyone involved in delivering the development and wishes the residents every happiness as they settle into their new homes.
